About Us

Little Maroons is a parent-supported childcare cooperative operating from a child-led, African-centered curriculum rooted in indigenous wisdom. We are located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.

What's New at Little Maroons?

We are accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year and the 2017 Summer. We service students ages 2.9 through 6 years old for our preschool, kindergarten and first grade program. We also provide our Aya Program (Before and After School) for school age children. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please contact us to schedule a visit.

A cooperative is defined as a group working or acting together willingly for a common purpose or benefit. The families of Little Maroons all agree that the education and care of their children is paramount.

An Advisory Board comprised of members of the original families helps keep the mission and vision in tact.  The currently enrolled cooperative members/families have one vote per family. There are work shift commitments, committee work and community meetings required of all the currently enrolled families to maintain the cooperative nature of the school. Click here for more information on work shifts, committees and community meetings.

As a cooperative, we provide and help build a network of families that are able to be a support system for each other while also directly contributing to the children’s education and livelihood through work shifts, committee work and community workshops.  We believe that revolutionary work begins with raising and teaching our children to have pride in themselves and their heritage.
